The Competition Authority Celebrates Co-operative in Serowe
The International day of Co-operatives was celebrated in Serowe at the Lady Khama Centre on July 7th, 2012. Hundreds of people convened at the Lady Khama Centre to witness the watershed event that brought dignitaries, co-operatives from around the country and the public at large.
The Competition Authority participated at this event by setting up a booth where visitors got an opportunity to get more information on the Competition Authority’s role and mandate. The booth was a bee-hive of activity as many visitors wanted to be more informed about the role of the Competition Authority.
The event was organised by the Ministry of Trade and Industry under the theme “Co-operative Enterprises Build a better World”. According to the organisers, the aim of the event was to sensitise members of the public on the critical role played by the Cooperatives in Botswana. In addition, the parent ministry- the Ministry of Trade and Industry used the occasion to share some of the programmes and services that the ministry offers to the public and business community.
The event was officially opened by the Minister of Trade and Industry Hon. Dorcas Makgato-Malesu. Minister Malesu also gave an overview of the status of Co-operatives Transformational Strategy which showed that there is reinvigoration of the cooperatives around the country.
Co-operatives from across the country participated during the celebration and also exhibited their products.
